S-Frame Explained

Interface/Modelling

A significant benefit of S-Frame over the other general analysis packages on the market is its Windows based, simple user interface for the input and output of structural geometry, loading, analysis and results. The graphical and analytical performance for large models including floor diaphragms, finite elements, vibration and dynamics is fast.

Analysis modelling interface features and benefits common to all versions of S-Frame include:

Creating the Model

  • Simple user interface with graphical manipulation similar to Fastrak
  • Powerful rapid auto generation tools for frames, trusses and meshing
  • Fully functional spreadsheet input/output of data
  • Input model from AutoCAD (via DXF)
  • Import from third-party software via the supplied conversion tools
  • Superb editing with 'cut, copy and paste' as well as mirror, rotate and move facilities
  • Multiple user co-ordinate system (UCS) feature - a powerful facility to aid setting out of complex geometry and/or to apply appropriate orientation to input/results
  • User control of model using folder technology
  • 'Physical Members' supported (no need to model individual sub-members. Results automatically collated for the design member)
  • International section database and facilites to input user defined section properties using simple graphical editor

Loading

  • Full range of loading options including point, line, and partial member loads
  • Automatic decomposition of one way and two way spanning area loads
  • Automatic calculation of notional loads (NHFs) supported for load combinations

General Options

  • Automatic FE quad and mixed quad/tri meshing capabilities
  • 3 and 4 node plate, shell and membrane elements
  • Modelling of rigid diaphragm action (to model slabs, core walls and shear walls etc.)
  • 'Mat Foundation Panel' element type
  • Powerful member rendering visualisation tool
  • Spring supports
  • Section property calculator using graphical input
  • Dimensioning tool
  • RC post-processing for FE slabs within the analysis package (includes Design Strips along slabs and walls providing Wood-Armer moments and reinforcement requirements)
  • Optional fully integrated steel frame and concrete element design
